Embroidery backing threads (bottom, foundation threads) are threads located in the embroidery machine's bobbin, wound onto a suitable bobbin. The final appearance of the embroidery depends on the quality and properties of these threads. Proper backing threads also guarantee high comfort when working with the embroidery machine. Therefore, it's worth using specialized backing threads designed for computerized embroidery machines . In most cases, when computerized embroidery, we wind specialized backing thread into the embroidery machine's bobbin. Only when embroidering a design that will be visible from both sides, do we thread the same thread used on the embroidery machine's needle into the bobbin.

What is black backing thread for in computer embroidery used for?
The backing thread is called the bobbin thread because it is used in the embroidery machine's bobbin case. This thread is suitable for use in both industrial embroidery machines and home embroidery machines. It is a thin thread (200 gauge) that allows for aesthetically pleasing embroidery on any type of fabric. Because the thread is very smooth, it doesn't jam when unwinding from the bobbin or when the needle is feeding it from the bobbin case. It is also resistant to tearing, thus increasing the comfort of working with the embroidery machine (no unnecessary downtime for threading).
Using a black backing thread makes the underside of the embroidery (invisible) black, while the upper side (visible) is colored. Black backing thread is used when embroidering on very dark or black fabrics. If embroidering on light, colored, or white fabrics, white thread should be used as the backing thread.
The backing thread differs from the top thread in both composition and thickness. Wherever possible, we should use special backing threads in the embroidery machine's bobbin case.
The thread can be wound onto the embroidery machine's bobbin either using the bobbin winder built into the machine or using an external bobbin winder used in industrial embroidery machines.
The threads are 200 gauge and can be used with any type of fabric. They work with needles ranging from 70" to 90".
The threads are antistatic, lint-free, and free from knots and bulges. They are perfectly smooth.
